Q: It's raining at my house.  Are you going to race?

A: We do everything in our power to complete a show.  We never cancel if it's "supposed to rain" or it's raining down the road.  However, if there is a serious weather threat, we may cancel to protect our racers and race fans safety. We always try to go on with our program.  Call the track at 989.624.9778 or watch our  home page.  See our rain policy on the Info page for more details.

Q: What time does everything begin?

A: On a weekly event, the pit gates open at 3 p.m. and the grandstand gates open at 4:00 p.m.  Warm-ups begin around 4:00 p.m. and the first official race begins at 7:00 p.m.

Q: I have never been to the races.  How loud are the cars?

A: For the majority of adults, the noise is acceptable once you get used to the sounds of the cars.  Mufflers are required on the majority of our divisions.  However, for those that are noise sensitive and especially young children, we recommend ear plugs.  These can be purchased at the Dixie Souvenir stand and Concessions at each register.

Q: What does a full or regular night of racing consist of?

A: On a weekly Friday Night program drivers will get their first chance on the speedway for warm-ups.  Various sessions are held for each division and drivers are able to see how their cars are running and give them time to fix any problems with their cars before time trials which start at 5:45 p.m.  Official racing begins at 7:00 p.m. with heat races for the Pro Late Models, Modifieds, Sportsman, Factory Stocks, Bombers and Figure-8's. The cars are split up in each division and generally run between two to four heat races per class.  These races help the drivers see if there are any problems with their cars and fix for the feature.  If there are more than 24 cars, sometimes B mains/last chance events will be contested to help fill the end of the feature lineup.  The features on a regular night are 25 laps for the Factory Stocks, Pro Late Models and Modifieds race 30 lap features.  Figure 8 (Bombers) features consist of 12 to 15 lap features.  These races are the most anticipated events of the night as drivers are the dare devils of the track.

Q: How long do the races last?

A: Typically a race night lasts between three to five hours.  On a regular event racing is generally finished between 10:30-11:00 p.m.  However, many factors contribute to the length of a program of which many can be out of our control.  The amount of cars, excessive accidents, weather, track conditions, etc. can delay and/or prolong a night of racing.  Even medical emergencies that could occur in the grandstands or on the speedway can delay the program.  It is our goal to be done by 10:30 p.m. to be as community and fan-friendly as possible.

Q: Who can enter the pit area and how old must one be?

A: Any person is permitted to enter the pit area providing they sign the release.  Minors that are under 18 years of age must be accompanied by their parent(s) or legal guardians and both the minor and parent/guardian must sign and complete the Parental Consent, Release & Waiver of Liability, Assumption of Risk, & Indemnity Agreement.  If you would like to get a Junior Card for the summer, you will need to fill out proper paperwork, plus have a copy of the child's birth certificate and the parent must have a copy or show drivers license and legal guardian must have the appropriate paper work. When in the pit area, please be aware at all times of your surroundings as they can be extremely dangerous.  All are welcome to enter the pit area after the racing program is completed in its entirety.  All pit passes regardless of age, $25 and $30/$35 on super special events.

Q: What are the requirements to be able to compete?

A: Cars must meet all safety and rule requirements to compete in a respected division.  Rule books listing all divisions, are available on our rules page.  Age requirements for bombers-you must be at least 14 yrs old and have filled out the appropriate forms with minor release forms.  Factory Stocks you must be a minimum of 16 years or older.

Q: We were at the races for the first time last Saturday and we a little confused on some signals and flags the flagman made.  Can you explain?

A: The green flag signals the official start of an event.  If that flagman does not wave the green flag and the green light does not come on, he feels someone gained an advantage and the start will be nullified.  When the yellow flag is displayed it signals for the drivers to slow down and hold their line.  Someone is either stopped on the race track or conditions are not safe to continue such as debris, fluids, or rain on the speedway.  The red flag alters drivers to come to a complete stop as quickly and safety as possible.  A more serious accident has occurred that may necessitate a longer delay for clean-up and/or medical treatment.  When a driver receives the black flag, he/she is to report immediately to the pit area as something is either unsafe on his/her car, has caused an infraction of the rules, or has done an action that is detrimental.  In essence, the car has been disqualified from the event.  When the flagman crosses two flags together, this signals that the event is halfway completed.  When you see the flagman hold out his hand with five fingers displayed means there are five laps to go.  The white and checkered flag held straight up means there are two laps to go.  When the white flag is giving, just one lap remains in the event.  The checkered flag is displayed when the leader is in sight and means that the race is considered complete when he crosses under the flag stand.

Q: How can my kids meet their favorite drivers and see the cars up close?

A: At our annual Autograph night, please visit our schedule page for this years date. Autograph session is on the front stretch with the drivers cars where you can get a photograph of his car and favorite driver along with his/her autograph, remember to bring an empty bag to put all the goodies the drivers hand out to you.  Autograph books, pens and the Dixie Motor Speedway Souvenir Programs are available at the Dixie Souvenir Booth.

Q: What are your Weather/Rain Policy?

A:
Weather forecasts are not always accurate or play out.  It may be raining up the road and the sun may be shining at the track.  We go along with our program and racing whenever we can, regardless of conditions or actual conditions in the surrounding areas.  We never cancel an event if it looks like rain or if they are predicting rain.

Call the track on the day of events at (989) 642-9778 for the latest.  Someone is in the office from at least 12:30 p.m. on, if not earlier.  If no one answers, the recording will give the latest information.  Please try back at a later hour.  We have two and sometimes three lines available to ring into the office.  Please be patient if you can't get through.

If you are having trouble getting it an answer, always check our home page.   The top of the page is updated from the track to give the latest updates.

In the event of a sudden shower, track officials will halt the races.  If it is just a passing shower, track crews will get the track back into safe racing conditions so the program can resume.

If in the opinion of the track officials that the rain is sufficient to cancel the remainder of the event, racing will not resume.  If all of the preliminary races or part of the features have been completed and the weather forces the program to be cancelled, there will be no "rain out".  Make-up features will be run in the subsequent nights, if possible.   Rain checks will not be honored.

If the races are cancelled prior to the completion of all of the preliminary events, a "rain out" will be declared.  An announcement will be made for what event(s) your tickets will be good for.  If an increased admission event occurs in one of the following weeks, you may use your rain check and pay the difference.  If an increased admission show is cancelled, your ticket may be redeemed for its face value for the specified (management’s decision) make-up special event or it may be redeemed at one of the next two regular events.  No refunds will be given for the difference in the ticket prices in either case.

If a situation occurs that you are unable to attend, please call the office Monday through Friday at (989) 624-9778.  Cash refunds will not be granted unless management makes a decision to refund the monies from the entire event.
